Raw Food Log #1
Posted: July 4th, 2008 under Living Raw, Raw Food Logs.
I was asked what exactly I eat, and for pictures of my food, too. It’s difficult to tell what I generally eat because it varies hugely, so I thought I’d log some random days from time to time, to give you an idea. Here’s what I ate two days ago. I’m sorry for the ugly looking pictures, they were taken with my cell phone, which likes to make everything appear yellowish.
Meal 1

Three apricots.
Preparation time: zero.
Dishes: none.
Meal 2

A plateful mixed greens (spinach, red chard, arugula and several different sorts of lettuce) with lots of parsley. No dressing.
Prep time: two minutes to grab a plate, open the fridge, fill the plate and close the fridge. One minute to get some parsley.
I wash and mix the greens immediately when I buy them and store them in the fridge, covered with a wet towel. This way they remain fresh and tasty, and I don’t need to wash them before eating them. It takes about 15 minutes to do this after shopping, and I have no preparation time afterwards.
Dishes: a plate. No fork, I just use my hands to eat greens, it’s more fun.
Since I use no dressing, there’s no need for warm water and dish liquid. Just a little bit of cold water is enough. You can imagine how fast it is to wash the dishes.
Meal 3

Two apples.
Prep time: zero.
Dishes: none.
Meal 4

A piece of watermelon.
Prep time: two minutes to cut the watermelon and put one piece of it on a plate
Dishes: a knife and a plate.
Meal 5

Two plateful mixed greens. Same mixed greens as above. No dressing. Please imagine the second plate, it looks exactly the same.
Prep time: two minutes like above.
Dishes: a plate.
The reason I use no dressing is that greens taste much better this way, for me. When I use oil I tend to swallow the salad without really chewing it and without really feeling the taste of it. It also tastes a little dry. Whereas without any dressing, the greens unfold all their deliciousness. They’re juicy and tasty, and I chew them with delight.
Meal 6

Three tomatoes and an avocado, mixed, with a little bit of salt.
Prep time: about five minutes.
Dishes: a plate, a fork, a knife, a spoon. Avocado, despite of being fat, doesn’t require dish liquid either. If you do the dishes immediately, cold water is enough.
That’s about a typical day for me when I have neither PMS nor my period.
